YOUTH DIRECTOR THROWS MORE LIGHT ON THE YOUTH PASTOR CONCEPT

The Youth Director, Pastor David Nyansah Hayfron as part of his itinery has visited and run workshops for pastors and wives in some Areas hosting youth pastors.

It would be recalled that in the 2014 Council Meetings, the Church adopted the Youth Pastor concept and deployed 12 pastors to 12 selected Areas to run the programme on pilot basis. These Areas were Kaneshie, Teshie-Nungua, Asokwa, Kwadaso, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Tarkwa, Sunyani, Berekum, Tachiman, Koforidua and Tamale. The concept is being run on pilot basis for two (2) years in these selected Areas.

The Director embarked on a working tour to the Kaneshie, Sunyani and Berekum Areas on 31st October, 4th and 5th November 2014 respectively to further sensitize stakeholders on the concept as well as how it was supposed to operate and the impact the concept promises to make in the Church. He also used the opportunity to measure how the concept was doing on the ground.

Area Heads concerned, Apostles Emmanuel Achim Gyimah, Kingsford Kyei-Mensah and M. S. Appiah who participated in the workshops themselves with the ministers and wives as well as selected youth workers in their Areas encouraged all stakeholders to give of their best to the project.

As part of his presentations, the Director emphasized that the youth pastor concept is a better replacement for the ‘Youth Area Leader’ concept as the latter was saddled with many challenges such as lack of availability and concentration of Area Youth Leaders due to load of work at the District and Area levels, high rate of review of leadership at both District and Area levels (mainly due to the transfer system of the Church), the mode of appointment of Area Youth Leaders, inadequate capacity building, among others. “As ministry among young people requires time, experience and trusted hands, there was the need for attempts to be made to address the aforementioned challenges,” he said. He continued that it was this effort that gave birth to the new youth pastor concept.

He said under the new concept, the Youth Pastor will be in charge of only one Assembly District to give him ample time to focus on the youth. It will also afford him time to be available for various capacity building workshops the Ministry intends to organize for youth workers.

The Director went along with Pastor Ben Noye and Pastor Ebenezer Hagan, PENSA Travelling Secretaries for Western and Greater Accra Regions.
