PREAMBLE

The Pentecost Writers Contest is an annual contest organized by the Youth Ministry to unearth the talents of members of the Church, both youth and adults, who have the flair for writing. Out of the scripts submitted each year, the best are selected    for publication in an annual Youth Reader.

PROCEDURE AND GUIDELINES FOR THE 2020 CONTEST

The following shall apply for the 2020 Contest:

Opening:

The contest was officially opened on SUNDAY, 5TH JANUARY, 2020 after an     opening declaration by the YOUTH DIRECTOR, Pastor Ebenezer Hagan at the   climax of the Pensa Ghana conference 2020 at Pcc.

Registration

Interested persons shall register after the official opening. Registration forms can   be acquired by sending a formal request to the writers contest committee via email pentwriterscontest@gmail.com or you can send a request to this number 0271223642 on whatsApp for the forms.

Applicants can also register by filling a registration form (hard copy) to be             circulated by the Youth Directorate through any of the Youth Ministry offices from the National to the Assembly level. The filled forms must be forwarded to The     National Coordinating Committee, Pentecost Writers  Contest, Youth Ministry      Directorate, P. O. Box 2194, Accra.

Registration shall be FREE. In filling the form, writers shall indicate their topics of interest for the contest. Such topic(s) should be chosen from the five thematic

areas. The following are the five thematic areas

  • Christianity and Politics
  • Prayer and Spiritual development
  • The Christian and nation building
  • Biblical values and sexuality
  • The relevance of the Christian faith in a scientific world

Above all else, the contest looks for originality of thought as the goal of the contest is to help develop the potential of those with the flair for writing. This shall not be compromised.

SUBMISSION OF ARTICLES

Applicants must submit their articles latest by 30 July, 2020. An applicant may      submit more than one script provided they are not within the same thematic area.  Articles may reach the Writers Contest Committee through pentwriterscontest@gmail.com. All articles submitted after the stipulated date shall be rejected.

Marking of scripts and Discussions by Committee: August 2020

Oral Defense:  SEPTEMBER 2020.

External Assessment: OCTOBER 2020

Declaration of Winners, Receiving of Awards and Launching of  Reader: January 2021 (during the PENSA Ghana Conference).

ASSESSMENT OF SCRIPTS

Scripts would be marked by the National Youth Writers Contest Committee. Areas for consideration would include how rich and sound the arguments propelled are   in dealing with the topic being written on. In addition, the laws that govern essay  writing in English Language would be uncompromisingly employed. The writer’s ability to sustain the interest of the youth and his readers at large will be a plus.

Marking Scheme

Content                                   –        30 marks

Organization                            –        10 marks

Expression                              –        20 marks

Mechanical Accuracy              –        20 marks

Originality of thought              –        20 marks

 

ORAL DEFENSE

Writers of the best scripts submitted would be invited for an Oral Defense Session to be held in September 2020.
