Overview

Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA) from its inception has been vibrant in Evangelism, Soul winning and Church Planting. PENSA has also been impacting and touching lives in our societies through effective teaching, prayers, discipleship and raising of leaders who continue to raise high the banner of Christ and the Church.

The idea of deploying PENSA Alumni into mission Areas for their National Service and also to support the work of missions evolved from the annual Rural Evangelism undertaken by PENSA students in the various tertiary institutions across the country. The students go to these rural communities and spend at least a week or a month in these communities. They get involved in Evangelism, leadership training and Community development. They teach in the primary, Junior High and Senior High Schools. They engage the youth in sports, educational talks; run seminars on reproductive health and other social issues. They also organize free medical outreaches
to selected communities and also offer free health talks to these communities.

The impact on our students and on the communities has been phenomenal. Many have shown the passion to continue this kind of work for a year or so during their National Service and if possible, to continue a year or more before going into their chosen careers.
It is in this vain that the leadership of the Youth Ministry and PENSA felt the need to collaborate with National Service Secretariat (NSS) in the spirit which provided the statutory for the National Service Scheme to embark on this project.

In our quest to possess the nations for Christ in the coming years, we also want to look at how best we can raise and train the youth who have the passion for soul winning and church planting and deploy them to do their National Service in Rural Communities especially the Northern part of the Country and also among the Fulani’s where their gifts and intellectual capacities can be harnessed to win souls and also plant new
churches in these communities.

Against this backdrop, we have proposed the following as our working guide.

VISION

Our focus is to ignite in the students the desire to give back to the community what they have gained through tertiary education and also the riches they have tasted in Christ Jesus through the Church and PENSA in specialized and sacrificial ways.

This aim is taking from Hebrews 13:15-16 “The church is to continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to the name of God and also not forgetting to do good and share with others for with such sacrifices God is well pleased” (emphasis mine)

PENSA had been involved in evangelism in the church but it is for a short period, but with this program, we desire to deploy people to stay in the communities and do the work for at least one year. Their main task will be to spread the gospel through one on one evangelism. All souls won through the evangelism will be discipled that is taken through the new convert class and integrate them into the church.

We will partner with the National Evangelism Ministry, the Areas and Districts we will be sending the people to help us locate communities where there are no churches or local assemblies and send the National Service Personnel there to help start and plant new churches in these localities.

Apart from the students serving the nation and also doing the work of evangelism and church planting alongside, they will also be trained to help in community development.

As a church we believe in being the salt of the earth and the light of the world. It is our aspiration to let the cream of the youth of the church bring to bear their Christian values into the communities where they are posted.

The students would be posted to communities and locations where ordinary service personnel may not want to go and serve the nation.
